THE 'THEORY' OF DAYO INSTALLATION
The goal of any software installation is to have the software up and
running quickly. Accomplishing this goal with DAYO can prove difficult due
to its sheer size, number of files, and memory/hardware requirements.
The first step in DAYO installation is to insure you meet the hardware
and system requirements of an IBM compatible PC, with 640k of memory, a hard
disk with sufficient disk space, and DOS 3.3 or above. Because DAYO requires
more FILES to be opened than DOS normally opens, the CONFIG.SYS file may need
to be edited to insure that the FILES= line is present and is set to at least
55. Read your DOS manual for more information about your CONFIG.SYS file
and/or the FILES= statement. If you have no CONFIG.SYS file, then create one,
copy it onto your boot disk/diskette, then reboot your system. A CONFIG.SYS
file is an ASCII file that should contain (at least) the following two lines:
BUFFERS=10
FILES=55
*** Note! To date, the most frequent installation problem has been
attributed to a missing or incorrect CONFIG.SYS file.
There are 2 means of installing DAYO:
1st - SETUP.EXE
A SETUP program was created to aid/perform the task of installation,
and can be found on the latest release (1.3) of the DAYO MENU
diskette. It is recommended that this program be used, especially
when the entire DAYO system is being installed. DAYO SETUP will
prompt you to insert your DAYO diskettes, and then perform the task
of creating directories and coping the files from the diskettes to
your hard disk. After running SETUP, run MENU.BAT from the \DAYO
directory. Enter/select each of the modules from the menu. If the
module is present and all works well, the initial entry into a
module will initiate the creation of all database, index and
configuration files.
2nd - Manually - Using DOS - By Yourself
Downloads from a BBS or online service require this method...
The installation of a single DAYO module is relatively simple. Copy,
the contents of the DAYO floppy disk into a directory on your hard
disk (ie: \DAYOINV). UnZip the module or run the Self Extracting
file. Repeat this process for each DAYO module. After coping and
extracting all file, run MENU.BAT from the \DAYO directory.
Enter/select each of the modules from the menu. If the module is
present and all works well, the initial entry into a module will
initiate the creation of all database, index and configuration
files.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT EACH DAYO MODULE HAVE ITS OWN
DIRECTORY, ie:
\DAYOINV\ (for Inventory)
\DAYOPOS\ (for Point of Sale)
\DAYOBO\ (for BackOrders)
\DAYOPB\ (for Price Books)
\DAYOQUO\ (for Quotes)
\DAYOAR\ (for Accounts Receivable)
\DAYOGL\ (for General Ledger)
\DAYOPAY\ (for Payroll)
\DAYOLU\ (for Database LookUp)
\DAYOAP\ (for Accounts Payable)
\DAYOEOP\ (for End of Period/Purge)
\DAYORPT\ (for Smart Reports)
\DAYOPAS\ (for Passwords)
\DAYOX\ (for Indexing)
\DAYO\ (for Update Program)
\DAYO\ (for Menu)
\DAYO\ (for Clock)
The DAYO Menu program/batch file (MENU.BAT) has these directories in
it, and will require editing if you decide to place the DAYO modules
elsewhere.
The DOS command to create a new directory is MKDIR (or just MD).
This must be done from the root directory of your hard disk.
